Woerden Residence, Woerden (NL)
Dirk Jan Postel
A glass sunroom links the 1932 residence and the adjacent garage/stables into a continuous space that liberates the somewhat confining dimensions of the original design. The client who previously commissioned the design of the Woerden Dental Practice had become so used to it's open, well-lit spaces that he requested a similar extension of his new home. Thanks to ten years of development the construction could be conceived without steel columns. The resulting load-bearing glass extended to a considerably larger scale than Temple de l'Amour II in 2001. To eliminate any appearance of supports, both pivoting doors turn in free-standing frames.
