Dirk Jan Postel is designing five villas for a large scale project in Tianjin, China. The villas are part of the ‘The World’ project, which is being developed in a former water basin. This water rich environment is being redeveloped and modelled on the map of the world. Each island will represent a continent, with Asia as the focal point. Tianjin is located at a distance of 150 km from Beijing.

The villas designed by Dirk Jan Postel will have a surface area of approximately 700 m2 and will be located at the water’s edge. Even though the five villas are based on different designs, they are part of a single series. Each residence will have a recess to accommodate a terrace or balcony. The small strips of water (canals) on the garden side and open view over a flat landscape symbolise a link with the water rich, Dutch landscape.
