The Castellum Theatre is a striking feature in the heart of Alphen aan den Rijn and lends the riverside square its identity. The symbolic expression of a house of culture was combined with the informal character of the square, featuring shops, bars and restaurants. The theatre complex boasts a main hall with 749 seats, a multi-purpose hall with 240 seats and three cinemas. The fly tower is cleverly integrated into the building volume that is entirely clad in corrugated aluminium. The innovative pattern design called 'desert storm' is moulded by explosives.
