Dental Practice, Woerden (NL)

> interior design

Two houses are combined into one that includes a dental practice. Within the existing building envelope an X-ray room is inserted that separates the waiting room from the surgery. This room is finished with birchwood panels lined with galvanised steel to protect from radiation. For the extension glass panels are mounted directly onto the steel girders. A twin pair of teak doors are incorporated into the facade without any visible doorframe.

Rainwater is drained in open vertical gutters. The roof is covered in moss-sedum, tempering the climate inside. The south facade is a passive solar heat collector. On the outside louvres of western red cedar prevent excessive heat gain in summertime. In order to avoid barriers and extend space any unnecessary elements have been carefully eliminated.
