Stadsdeelhuis Oost, Amsterdam (NL)
Dirk Jan Postel
Stadsdeelhuis Oost contains the local city office, a fine arts centre and a 0-12 primary school/community centre. It is the central block in the urban plan for the Polderweg area, the city’s former power plant. The historic facades are partly restored to maintain the characteristic view from the waterside. Inside, the fine arts centre profits from the vast spaces. The city office recedes from these halls. The school for various age groups is planned around a playground area for the youngest children. Its horizontal facade is intersected by an entrance arch.
